Merry Christmas to you all.
It is at this special time of year we are able to take the time to reflect on how fortunate we are, and what a gift we are able to give to these beautiful Nepali children.
Our Fireflies flourish with the love and belonging they receive at our home in Nepal. Seeing the smiles on their faces and their love of learning – it sets me off every time! What’s important is that we are able to see to their health needs as well as their education. This year, Dengue fever has hit Nepal in a drastic way. Over 70,000 people have been affected by the illness. Our Fireflies have been lucky enough to escape it. We have however been able to treat one of our girls for Tuberculosis with daily medication. We are ever so grateful to have the funds to assist the children in this way.
Longtime sponsors Judy and Rod Townsend visited Nepal last month to go trekking. They were able to visit the orphanage base and office in Kathmandu and meet the staff. “It was such an honour to meet Indira,” says Judy. “She made us feel very welcome and meeting her and the dedicated team in the office helped me realise why you return year after year Amanda. It was a great experience to finish off our visit to Nepal.” Judy and Rod were able to meet with Manita; the girl they have sponsored, who has now been reintegrated back into life at the home of her aunty.
As we move into 2020, we will continue to find relatives and reintegrate Fireflies where we can depending on their individual circumstances. Obviously most children have nowhere to go and will remain at Firefly until they’re 18, but we do our best to seek the best solution for each child.
Thank you for your support this year. We could not work on behalf of these happy kids without your donations. Best wishes and Happy New Year!
