Ranjana

Her story

Born in 1996, Ranjana’s mother died during childbirth when her younger brother was born. Her father remarried and Ranjana was treated badly by her step-mother, who eventually threw her out. Ranjana was brought to FCH by the school principal where the FCH children attend.

Ranjana’s brother lives with an auntie, but he does not know that Ranjana is his sister, nor does he realise that his auntie is not his mother. We are going to encourage Ranjana to visit the auntie and brother during school holidays.

Her personality

Ranjana is a serious and quiet girl who is conscientious about her schooling and actively involved in extracurricular activities. She likes hugs, but stands back to let the other children have a turn first, then waits patiently for her hug at the end. She is very affectionate and doesn’t need to be the centre of attention. She is good friends with Shanti.

Update 2012

Ranjana is as heartwarming as ever. It is always so nice to catch up with Ranjana. We slip into our friendship so quickly discussing all sorts of topics in a deep and meaningful way. She is still quiet and studious with a great sense of humour. She spends time with Shanti and they both often run errands together. This time they both accompanied me to help purchase sari’s for the didi’s. Ranjana continues to take the same medicine for her epilepsy and hasn’t had headaches or problems since being on this medication.
Ranjana has expressed interest in going to live with her brother nearby the home. As it is her final year at shcool she would like to have more peace and quiet to study at home. She is currently making enquiries to see if her brother is happy about this. His room is close to our home, so it will not be a problem to monitor her if she does move. Should this happen, she will come under our GEN program in which her education is sponsored by us, but her other expenses (food, clothes) are covered by family. Of course we will continue to pay for her medical bills. I will keep you posted as to what happens on this front.

Sponsorship

Ranjana is sponsored by a New Zealand family: Jo and Pat Leary and their children Jessica, Samantha and Benjamin. Please contact us if you would like to enquire about part or full sponsorship of another child from our home.
